A Lagoon Catwalk that was constructed by a group of Townsville Building Industry Companies at this year’s $100,000 Opal Fashion Bash has certainly gone a long way to promoting the Australian Opal Industry to the world.
Event founder Mr. Henry Petersen said it just goes to show what a small group of building industries companies can achieve in promoting this Industry.
” I take my hat off to John Wilkinson and his team for designing and constructing such a magnet for tourism publicity. Every time we get asked by southern magazines, newspapers or tourism web sites for photos they usually request ones of models wearing opals and parading on this amazing lagoon catwalk. It certainly has done its part in putting both the opal fashion bash and the Australian Opal Industry on the radar map.
I not sure how much more John’s team can better present it next year but I am sure they will have something up their sleeve ” Mr. Petersen said.
Meanwhile its full steam ahead with planning towards next year’s event which will be again staged in the Qld Autumn school holiday s between 16 – 19 April at Townsville Riverway. Since their Spring launch last Sunday organisers have reported increased traffic flows on their web site as well as more enquiries to purchase copies of their 2008 Opal Fashion Bash TV Doco which should sound all good news to the National Opal Miners Association who are the proud sponsors of this $100,000 national youth fashion event.
