COOBER PEDY POLICE CELEBRATE 50 YEARS

Coober Pedy will celebrate fifty years of permanent policing this weekend, with a number of events being held in the outback opal mining hub to commemorate the anniversary.

The Coober Pedy Police Station and Demons Social Club will host an open day at the police station from 10am until 3pm with everyone welcome to stop by and take a look.

An anniversary ceremony is being held at the police station at midday.

Ninety guests – including 40 past or serving Coober Pedy police officers – will attend a dinner on the Saturday night while on Sunday the Coober Pedy RSL are putting on a BBQ and drinks for anyone who is interested, with entry costing $5 a head.

A range of displays at the police station will include photographs and exhibits on loan from the Historical Society.
